Spring Equinox a Celebration
Sunday, March 20th, 2011
After the last couple of complex article entries it is time for us to celebrate a little. We have recently learned to pack china and stem ware. We have had this really bad winter and everyone, including myself who likes the winter, is ready for spring. At the writing of this article The Shipping Place has been closed for total of three days due to inclement weather. In the prior 12 years, The Shipping Place had not been closed for two days total due to inclement weather.
Today is the spring equinox. At this point it is time to think back on this harsh winter and look forward to the warmth of spring and summer. In a couple of months we will all be wishing for some cooler temperatures as the heat of summer is having us come unglued. At that point we will be wishing for some cooler weather.
I personally have always said it would be great if we could bottle some of those cold temperatures of winter and let them loose in the summer. The reverse is also true. At this point just sit back and enjoy the season of spring as all our snow and ice melts away. Watching the trees bud and the event of everything turning green is always nice in the spring. It is just a little sweeter this year after our brutal winter.
Welcome to spring! FINALLY

Shipping Virus Alert
Friday, November 19th, 2010
There is currently a “Package Delivery Failure Virus” circulating again. The original virus was for UPS packages and started circulation in 2008. After the original release of the UPS virus a FedEx virus soon entailed. The DHL virus was released late March of 2009. September 2010 saw the United States Postal Service, USPS, virus being released. These viruses are malicious and will do harm to your computer.
UPS, FedEx, DHL, and the USPS occasionally send an emails indicating a package is not addressed properly or can’t be delivered. The difference is their emails never contain an attached file. By opening this attached file you will be infecting your computer. The attached files in the emails are as follows:
- Ups_invoice.zip containing the file ups_invoice.exe
- FEDEXInvoice.zip containing an executable file
- FedEx_mailing_label_ID.zip containing an executable file
- USPSlabel.zip containing an executable file
Unfortunately we do not know the name of the DHL file. The UPS and FedEx viruses lure people to open them by indicating a package can’t be delivered due to an incomplete address. If you click on the zip file a window very similar to a Microsoft Word icon appears making it appear harmless. From our understanding it is at this point your computer gets infected.
The DHL version has the subject line “DHL Tracking Number”. This email contains an attachment to infect your computer with the virus.
The USPS virus asks the unsuspecting person to print a mailing label to lure them in. Upon opening the attachment is when the malware is activated.
The Shipping Place has been contacted 3 times this week with people wanting us to give their correct address to DHL and FedEx. We have informed our customers this in a virus and to delete it immediately. Please be extremely careful with these viruses as they are malicious.
