No matter what you need to ship or when it needs to arrive at its destination, we will assist you in choosing the best combination of carrier and service.

Put your mind at ease and let The Shipping Place take care of all your international packing and shipping needs.

International Letters & Documents

In addition to the complexity of legal regulations spanning the globe, each carrier has its own set of international shipping rules and offerings.

Overnight delivery is not available for most documents being shipped internationally, except for those being sent to major cities in Canada. In most cases, letters and documents can arrive at their destination within in a few days of shipping, but can be shipped more economically if timing is not critical.

Tracking capability varies from one carrier to the next. If you care only about timing, you may select one carrier. On the other hand, if timing is not that important but tracking is a primary concern, your carrier selection would be different. Each carrier offers a variety of services and service combinations.

Come to The Shipping Place and let us take the worry and confusion out of international shipping. We’ll explain all the options and the pluses and minuses of each, so that you can make the right choice to meet your needs.

Shipping International Packages

There are many forms and documents to be completed when shipping packages internationally. These documents are not difficult but tedious to complete. If the documents are not properly completed your package is in danger of being returned to you – or even destroyed in the country of destination.

Determining shipping costs is also far from simple. Dimensional weight is a concept that was implemented by carriers years ago to offset losses incurred when lightweight items took up too much space in their vehicles. Therefore, shipping cost is no longer based solely on package weight.

Today, when shipping packages internationally, every cubic inch counts in calculating the final cost of shipping. For example, if a package weighs 5 pounds and has dimensions of 12” x 12” x 12” it will ship as 11 pounds simply because the box is so big! If you placed 20 pounds in the same box, it would ship as 20 pounds – not 11 pounds based on the size of the box.

This is just one example of the complex rules governing international shipping costs. It can be a real challenge to strike just the right balance between generously padding an item inside a box (based on its fragility and value) and keeping the box within size limits to avoid additional dimensional weight charges. At The Shipping Place we meet this challenge day in and day out, so you can count on us to guide you through the complicated maze of rules and options for international shipping.
